Parental and Family Workshops

We all know how essential it is for our schools and families to be working closely together for the sake of our young people. Academically when we do it well the impact is good. The same could be the case for positively impacting the health of children. If the same messages are coming from both home and school it will help to embed a solid foundation of good, balanced key pillars of health, improve future generation’s health literacy and deepen their understanding of how they can live healthier and happier lives by taking responsibility for making their own good food and lifestyle choices. The power is within their hands. By implementing change at a young age, our population will be creating better health for the future, easing the tremendous pressure on our NHS by warding off poor health outcomes that are so visible in society today, clearly linked to suboptimal food and lifestyle choices.

Some parents have never been provided with the necessary knowledge and understanding of how to look after their bodies and safeguard their physical and mental health by living a healthy lifestyle. The basics of good nutrition, avoiding risky substances, getting quality sleep, physical movement, managing stress, nurturing relationships and living life with purpose have been neglected and now unhealthy habits are seen as the norm. As a teacher, I have seen this gap in knowledge pass down generations with detrimental consequences for children and their families but NOW is the time for us to intervene by providing health coaching through schools that link families and communities together to really make positive change and swing the pendulum back in the direction of good health and well-being.

A Parental/Family Workshop is designed to:

  • improve the Health Literacy of our children and families
  • increase essential knowledge of how the clever human body functions and how key pillars of lifestyle (nutrition, sleep, stress, physical movement, relationships and risky substances) impact their health and how they can make better choices
  • provide advice and support around improving sleep and food choices leading to better mood, energy, concentration and focus
  • increase awareness of how children’s behaviour issues, that impact school and family life, could be linked to their current food and lifestyle habits and how we can change these for the better
  • help families engage in more meaningful interactions, to communicate more effectively and establish better relationships
  • increase overall health and, in turn, harmony in the family home
  • support families to deal more confidently with health conditions affecting any family member such as Diabetes, Asthma/Allergies
  • develop more understanding about nutrition and make food shopping, cooking and meeting the dietary needs of family members a less arduous task
  • provide parents and carers with useful strategies, helpful advice and an essential support network
  • empower parents and carers to confidently take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their family’s health both now and in the future

A Parental or Family Workshop would be very effective for parents and carers who have the best intentions when it comes to their family’s health and well-being but feel overwhelmed and just don’t know where to start. They perhaps know what they should and shouldn’t be doing when it comes to things like ultra processed foods and screen time but they need practical help and advice to actually start making the changes that will benefit the whole family’s physical and mental health, whilst feeling less overwhelmed and alone in their quest.

I can run Parental and Family Workshops in your school on various health related topics that matter most to your children’s families and I would be happy to discuss these with you or carry out a FREE AUDIT that will help identify the top priorities of your families.
